Meet Our Interns

Meghan Dunne | Beacon Health NYC

Meghan Dunne

Meghan Dunne is currently a senior at the University of Richmond majoring in Psychology and minoring in Entrepreneurship. She has built a strong foundation in clinical psychology through her work with Virginia Psychology, where she supported therapeutic practices and client care, and through her volunteer experience with the CARES Program at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in New York. There, she assisted in providing multidisciplinary therapeutic services to students and observed group therapy sessions with clinicians and adolescents, while also contributing organizational and administrative support. Meghan also continues to contribute as a research assistant with the Psychological Maltreatment Alliance and its New York partner, New York Foundling, where she contributed to projects advancing trauma-informed care and the understanding of psychological maltreatment in children and families. Passionate about mental health and dedicated to supporting underserved communities, Meghan is committed to pursuing a career in clinical psychology and continuing to bridge academic knowledge with practical impact.

During her time as an intern under Dr. Sarah Dihmes, Meghan has learned to apply evidence-based psychological principles in clinical settings, gaining valuable experience in patient intake, and therapeutic support. In addition, Meghan has gained experience making connections with potential referral partners and assisting with organizational tasks such as scheduling and record management. Meghan’s experience as an intern for Dr. Dihmes has deepened her commitment to a career in clinical psychology and affirmed her interest in pursuing advanced training to become a licensed therapist. Looking ahead, Meghan hopes to continue building her professional experience in New York, working alongside Dr. Dihmes to further develop her clinical skills and contribute to expanding access to mental health care.

Sarah Aaron

Sarah Aaron is currently a student majoring in Psychology at Hamilton College. She became interested in the field of mental health from a young age, as both of her parents worked in the field of psychotherapy. As a child, Sarah would sit around the dinner table learning about her parents' work and deciphering hypothetical patients' "dreams" with her family, which sparked her love of therapy and psychoanalysis. Her long-term goal is to pursue a PhD and become a psychotherapist.

At Beacon Health NYC, she supports our team through working on research and outreach. Her responsibilities included researching mental health topics, creating blog posts for the website, assisting with outreach through email, building the LinkedIn page, and helping to design the practice's website. Through working for Beacon Health NYC, Sarah has gained exposure to what it is like to be a therapist and build a private practice, especially in a city as competitive as New York, in addition to learning more about the topics included in her research, such as types of therapy, intake questions, and evidence-based approaches.

She was drawn to this internship since she wanted to be part of building a practice with a mission dedicated to enhancing mental well-being and personal growth for its patients. Additionally, Sarah felt the opportunity to work directly underneath two clinicians with similar career paths to her long-term goals was incredibly exciting.

Her favorite part of the experience so far has been learning how to structure blogs on the Beacon Health NYC website, and getting Black Tap milkshakes with the team during an in-person day. Sarah's advice to incoming interns is not to be afraid to take on side quests and tasks that interest you, such as building a LinkedIn page or scheduling meetings with professionals you want to learn from!

Luli Simonian

Luli is currently a senior in high school at the Horace Mann School. She became interested in psychology and mental health as she was interested in gaining a more nuanced understanding behind interpersonal relationships and individual behavior. Her long-term goal is to obtain a degree in psychology and apply her knowledge to advocate for mental health and therapy awareness in non-traditional fields.

At Beacon Health NYC, Luli has been leading our social media strategy by creating exciting content for Beacon Health’s TikTok, Instagram, and LinkTree presence. She has also supported the team across marketing initiatives and project coordination. During her internship, Luli has gained first-hand exposure to private practice management and organization, running impactful social media campaigns and effective business outreach.

Luli was drawn to this internship because of the mentorship opportunities that come with working in a small team setting and the direct interaction with Dr. Dihmes and Mrs. Zaga to create and curate the social media strategy and content for the practice.

Luli's favorite part of the experience so far has been the ability to combine psychology and media in a way that effectively reaches an expansive target audience, and witnessing the increasing viewership of Beacon Health NYC's content (filming videos with the team was a great and fun experience)!

Her advice to incoming interns is: “There is no such thing as being over-prepared or over-organized."
